Hello. I’m Ellen Lumpkin Brown and I am a bit obsessed with sewing. I know that might sound a little odd but it’s true - for me, sewing is power! It is powerful to be able to make what you want. I am the owner of Sew It! Workshop, an new concept in sewing instruction. I offer classes and lessons in my studios in South Orange and Newark NJ and, I also offer super fun mobile classes at local libraries, in homes, museums, galleries, churches, temples, schools, mosques, community centers, corporate boardrooms, and just about anyplace else that has tables, chairs and electricity! I'm a Certified BurdaStyle Instructor, a visiting instructor in Wearable Art at the Newark Museum in Newark NJ and a Member of the Lifetime Arts Roster of Creative Aging Instructors.
Sewing is great because you see results so quickly. If you want to feel accomplished - sew.
In addition to teaching, I've written a bunch of books and designed many sewing patterns as you'll see when you explore the website. I am the author of Doll Fashionistas – Sewing Stylish Dolls and Their Wardrobes (F+W Media); The EveryGirl™ Doll Simple Sewing Handbook – Sew Your Own 18-inch doll; Sew! It! Tween! DIY Fashion and Accessories for the ‘Me’ Made Life, and more. My books and patterns have been featured online and in publications including: BurdaStyle.com, QNNTV.com, Stitch Magazine, Soft Dolls and Animals Magazine, and more.
